Keith Mayerson

Mike Myers

This is from a film still from an outtake of the first Halloween film, directed by John Carpenter. Although of course serial killers are evil, the beginning of the film has Myers as a child, isolated and alone in cul-de-sac suburbia, an evocation of existential angst of modern 70's America that I could relate to, despite my relatively happy childhood growing up in Colorado. I used the image as a muse to create a pop avatar of psychological isolation that I could ruminate upon while painting, the classic Vermeer-like romantic model looking out the window in a contemporary dystopic reversal, the German Expressionist-like verve permeating the scene.
