This was for a show called Good Leaders, Endangered Species, Ships at Sea, because I feel like we need Good Leaders, as they are an Endangered Species, in a world (and America) that was like a Ship at Sea. This was true then, in the weaning years of the W. era and into the Obama, and even more now as I write this with the oncoming of fascism through America and the globe.
Of course, this is a polar bear on a melting iceberg, thinking of the good words of Al Gore and the images in his and other films and videos of their home territory getting lost at sea. I love to micromanage, and being a son of a psychoanalyst, having image fall apart into abstraction, an abstraction of a projected unconsciousness maps upon what you are observing, giving you pinpoints on which to map your dream worlds into a reality. Here, I’m hoping the icebergs break into a surreal moment of the unconscious, my thoughts and feelings projected onto dreamlike forms of other worlds, in a wintery post-apocalyptic haze of prophetic abstraction that I hope doesn’t become a reality. The bear’s berg itself to me looks kind of like a plane, a warship, another symbolic fate of doom. Hopefully the bear appeal reaches all of us, no matter what our political stripes, we all must agree to save nature and our wilderness, the flora and fauna upon the earth, the interconnectedness of everything before we break apart and melt into a melancholic ending of the Earth.
