Three Bridges, 2017

For the MOCA Cleveland exhibition of My American Dream I wanted to create works that were specific to the area, that would be special and bring the narrative to the community, much in the same way Thomas Hart Benton and some of the earlier WPA and American Modernist artists would treat all parts of America as equally important.

It was suggested by my friend and dealer Brett Shaheen that the location of the three bridges could be good, as I really wanted an iconic image of the city that I have grown to love. With the three bridges of the Flats area of Cleveland, generations of great history are represented, with the wealth of industry pouring money into the city as it does now, with the sweeping vistas of history coming into a city that is as important and lively as ever. I’m a buckeye at heart, having been born in Cincinnati, and Cleveland has become a new home for me artistically and spiritually, and am proud to have this work included in the cosmology of My American Dream at it symbolizes the dreams of both the city and me, having my first museum solo exhibition at MOCA Cleveland!
